Bert Jan Bruning appointed new director of Nedmag in Veendam

Bert Jan Bruning (47) has been appointed Managing Director of Nedmag starting 1 October. He succeeds Paul Schipper, who became leader of Lhoist's German branches in June of this year. In the position of Managing Director, Bruning will also be responsible for the continued implementation of the multi-million euro investment plan announced by Nedmag last spring.

Bert Jan Bruning

He was previously employed by the Nijburg Industry Group, also as Managing Director. Bruning began his career at Kappa, and has worked at SCA Hoogezand and Smurfit Kappa Solid Board. He served at these companies in various management positions, both national and international. Bruning was born in the Northern Netherlands and is a "local" resident.

Nedmag is an independent company with two production sites in the Northern Netherlands: one site, just outside Veendam, where magnesium chloride is extracted, and a production site in Veendam where this salt is converted into magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide and calcium chloride.

Half of Nedmag's shares are held by the Lhoist Group, with the other 50% held by the Investment and Development Agency for the Northern Netherlands (NOM), a Dutch government entity. The Lhoist Group is a family business that has existed for more than 125 years. With its head office in Belgium, it is a global leader in the production and distribution of lime and dolomite, as well as derivative products.
