International regulations impose strict limits on sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions from the maritime industry. To comply with IMO sulphur emission requirements, ship owners can either switch to low sulphur marine fuels or install an exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber), allowing vessels to continue operating on conventional fuels while meeting emission standards.
Scrubbers have proven to be a reliable solution. Today, more than 5,800 seagoing vessels are equipped with scrubber systems, representing approximately 28% of the world's merchant fleet by tonnage. Types of exhaust scrubbers
Wet scrubber systems are widely used to remove sulphur oxides from exhaust gases. Within this category, closed loop and hybrid scrubbers are the most common systems that require an alkaline reagent to neutralise acidic gases. MH53S Mare, based on high purity magnesium hydroxide, has been specifically developed for these applications.

MH53S Mare offers a safe and reliable alternative to traditional alkaline chemicals such as caustic soda. Magnesium hydroxide is non corrosive and is not classified as a hazardous substance, making storage, transport, handling and dosing significantly safer.
Compared with 50% caustic soda, up to 30% less product is required to achieve the same neutralisation capacity. This reduces storage requirements, handling frequency and overall operating costs.
